How do I set up my account for US state tax exemption or 0% EU VAT?

Modified on Fri, 06 May 2022 at 02:00 PM

US sellers can set up their account so that they won't be charged tax when ordering books to ship to their home states. The same account setting will apply to EU sellers and 0% EU VAT.

The option to enter a tax ID in your account settings is not yet live for EU dealers, but it will be available as of June 15, 2021

To update that setting:

Login to your Biblio menu and click on Account at the top of the page, then choose Account Settings from the drop-down menu. On the Business Info tab, beneath your address, you'll see Sales Tax Exemptions. Check the box next to I have a valid sales tax and use license.

US sellers will be able to choose the US state for their Reseller's License and enter their Tax ID Number.

EU sellers will be able to choose their country and enter their tax ID number. If you use your seller account to purchase books from non-EU sellers, you will not be charged VAT as long as you provide us with this information. Once we have your tax ID on file, we will charge you a VAT rate of 0%. The option to enter a tax ID in your account settings is not yet live for EU dealers, but it will be available as of June 15, 2021.

After adding your tax ID click the rad Save button. Going forward, make sure you are logged into your BiblioDirect when you order books, so we can apply the US state tax exemption/0% EU VAT.

Tax-exempt customers placing orders to ship to those states can easily get their accounts set up so that sales tax is not added to their orders. If you have any such customers, please ask them to email us at support@biblio.com to set up their customer accounts for tax exemption. We'll just need documentation, such as a tax-exempt certificate.
